APPLEGATE, JAMES WESLEY "JIM," JR., 86, of Louisville passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 6, 2014.

He was born Easter Sunday, April 17, 1927, in Louisville. He was the son of the late James Wesley Applegate, Sr. and Annabel Stovall Applegate.

Jim graduated from Male High School in 1944, upon graduation he entered the Army. He served his country proudly as an MP during World War II in Germany and France. After his military service, Jim joined the TKE fraternity and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1950. He was employed at General Electric with over 38 years of service in forecasting management.

Jim was a devoted and loving husband who was most proud of his family and guided each of his two sons and seven grandchildren with wisdom, patience and loving advice. He was a Christian man who lived by his Faith and values. Jim always had a smile on his face and was ready to tell a story or joke at any given time. His wealth of knowledge and attention to detail was always astonishing to those who knew him.

Jim was an avid fan of U of L sports, loved cars and was a strong believer in supporting charities.

Jim was a member of Beargrass Christian Church and Jeffersontown Freemason Lodge #774.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, James Wesley Applegate, III, DMD.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Meyer Applegate; son, Dr. Keith Thomas Applegate (Lisa) of Lexington, KY; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Krenek Applegate; grandchildren, Leslie, Stephen, Peyton, Anna, Carmen, Hadley and Reed; sister, Norma Dohrman; nieces, Susan Burress, Marilyn Glanz and Tara Malloy (Tony) and sister-in-law, Carol L. Meyer.

Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville with a private committal. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be made to .
