SASS, JENNIFER ANNE (ROBINSON), 45, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Norton Suburban Hospital.

Jenny was diagnosed with angiosarcoma of the heart on October 27, 2008, and was given a prognosis of three months to a year to live. By using her vast knowledge of the medical field to research new medicines and treatments for cancer, and through sheer determination, she prolonged her life for nearly 2½ years post-diagnosis.

Jenny was born July 26, 1965 in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard A. Robinson and Ruth Anne (Hosey) Robinson.

She leaves in memory her beloved husband of 20 years, John Robert Sass; their children, Madeline Anne, Claire Ruth and Olivia Elizabeth Sass; sister, Katie Malone; brothers Ricky Robinson (Renee) and Rob Robinson (Christie); parents-in-law, Joe and Barbara Sass; brothers-in-law, Joe (Ann), James (Lisa); aunt, Lois Jeanne Shekell; nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Jenny received her associate degree in nursing from Bellarmine University, a BSN from the University of Louisville and an advanced degree from Spalding University. She was certified as a family nurse practitioner and as an occupational health nurse specialist. Jenny began her career as a registered nurse in the 2 Giles unit on June 9, 1986. She worked in occupational medicine, then at Norton Immediate Care Centers. Jenny enjoyed a 25 year career with Norton Healthcare. She co-authored "Exposure to Blood and Body Fluid," Factors Associated With Non-Compliance in the Follow Up HIV Testing Among Health Care Workers, October 1995 in American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Journal.

Beside her work career, Jenny loved to sew, and had smocked many dresses for her children when they were young. She was an avid college football enthusiast recently following the University of Illinois, and was a University of Louisville basketball fan. Jenny was an excellent writer who believed in thank you notes, a devoted friend putting others before herself, and was active in parish and school activities. However, Jenny gained the most joy in the presence of her three daughters and little dog "Lucky." The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. Burial in Calvary Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 1-8 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with a prayer service Sunday at 4 p.m.
