JOHNSON, JOHN EDWARD, 86, returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 6, 2013.

John was born on July 11, 1927 in Louisville. He was a 1946 graduate of Central High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart for his service. He retired after 33 years of service, working as a mail processor machine operator for the United States Postal Service. He also served as past treasurer and trustee for Lampton Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Ethel Dean Johnson; sisters, Lena Mae Barnett, Delores Bradley, Mary Louise Jones and Jamesella Perry; and brother, Clarence Johnson, Jr. Left behind to cherish his memory is his daughter, Lori Beasley (Jimmy) of Indianapolis, IN; Eric Paul and Marc Edward (Tianda) Johnson; grandchildren, Jimmy Jr. and Ariel Beasley and Jessica Johnson; cousin, Eleanor L. Foreman; nieces, Pam Clark, Rickie Cole, Paula Cooper, Deanna Jackson, Mabel King and Joyce Logan ; nephews, Derrick Houston and Maurice Johnson and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church, 2200 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.
