CARTER, JOHN HEYWARD SR., 88, was called home to be with his Lord after a long struggle with Alzheimer's dementia on January 8, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was a devoted member of Green Street Baptist Church and loved the Lord through song as a member of many choirs over his lifetime. He was a retired businessman and owner of Carlac Coatings Company. He retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving in World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operations. Among his many military accomplishments, he has received two bronze stars, a silver star, a distinguished service cross and three purple hearts.
He saw a lot in his life, didn't believe in handouts, but would always give you a hand and teach you something that you could use. He did a lot for a lot of people.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Millington of Barbados, West Indies.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Louise; his children, John H. Carter Jr., Nathaniel M. Carter (Carla), Walter S. Carter (Tiffany), Lisa Carter-Harris (Kevin) and Jonathan M. Carter; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
