Joseph W. "Buddy" Alvey, 79, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2004. He was a native of Lebanon, KY, a retired employee of General Electric Company, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. "He will be remembered for his good humor, love for fishing and his home-grown tomatoes." Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Myrtle Baker Alvey. He is survived by his six children, Bill (Tonya) Alvey, Ann Allen, Mary (Bill) Jordan, Marlene (Jim) Hennessey, Chuck Alvey and Tambra (Brad) Hillerich; sisters, Ida Elder and Lyda Cecil; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 760 Eastern Parkway, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway. Memorial gifts may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
