Lee Conn "Sug" Schusterman Obituary
SCHUSTERMAN, LEE "SUG" CONN, 71, peacefully passed away on May 2, 2012, after a brief illness.

A native of Kentucky, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Eastern New Mexico University. Representing New Mexico she was a finalist in the Miss America Pageant.

While living in New York she had a long career in the fashion industry representing such notable designers as Karl Lagerfeld, Ungaro and Luis Féruad. After years of extended international and domestic business travel, she returned to her beloved Kentucky in the mid 1980's and worked in corporate development for the Louisville Theatrical Association and was director of Community/Public Relations for the Camberly Brown Hotel.

Best known for her philanthropic service to many Louisville arts and health agencies, at various times she served on the boards of the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, Kentucky Opera, Louisville Ballet, Louisville Theatrical Association, and American Red Cross. She was a member of the Fincastle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

With her husband Dan she chaired the Kentucky Opera's Hard Scuffle Steeplechase for two years. She also chaired the Louisville Antique Show, the Louisville Theatrical Association's Phantom of the Opera Ball, raised record-breaking funds for the 2005 Kentucky Derby Museum Gala, and as co-chair for the capital campaign for the Louisville Deaf Oral School raised over $8 million to build a new school and create the Heuser Hearing Institute. She also served as a member of the board of the Institute and as its chairman for several years.

She was the recipient of the Deep Roots Award for community service in 2004 and she and Dan received the Child Advocate of the Year Award in 2005 from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

Sug will always be remembered for her generosity from the heart. She was a loyal friend, always willing to give of herself and to serve. She was gentle and kind to everyone she met. Her touch, her smile, her laughter endeared her to all. She accomplished much in her life but nothing was greater than her joy of living and caring.

She was the daughter of the late William "Bill" and Elizabeth "Ella" Wilhoyte Conn of Crestwood, KY and Coral Gables, FL.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel E. M. Schusterman; stepsons, Mark (Barbara), Kurt (Adrienne), Eric and Richard Schusterman; stepdaughter, Pam Roddy; and grandchildren, Nikki Cupolo and Asher, Elizabeth, Torrey and Natalie Schusterman.

The family wishes to express its deep and sincere appreciation for the loving care Sug received from the Hospice nurses; Erica Black; and friends, Carol Lomicka and Libby Parkinson.

The funeral service will be at Calvary Episcopal Church, 821 S. Fourth St. at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, with burial to follow at Duncan Memorial Cemetery at Floydsburg, KY. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at Pearson Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may go to Heuser Hearing & Language Academy, 111 E. Kentucky St., Louisville, KY 40203.
