STEINBOCK, LOUISE FUNK, died after a life well-lived on September 30, 2013 while residing at the Episcopal Church Home.
Born in Louisville on May 26, 1926, she was a lifelong resident of the City of Louisville and had attended the University of Louisville until marrying Edmund Steinbock, Jr., after his return from World War II in 1946.
While raising her family of seven children, Louise found time to participate in a women's Book Club, play tennis regularly, lead a Junior Great Books discussion group, volunteer with the League of Women Voters, become a Life Master level bridge player, and travel internationally in connection with her husband's dental products manufacturing company, the Whip Mix Corporation. She also served for many years on the Board of Planned Parenthood of Kentucky, seeing the value in women being in control of their own reproductive health.
Louise's energy was infectious and her family and friends were readily recruited into helping her do things to make Louisville a better place in which to live. Her work to create Theatre Square is one example of the many projects she was involved in.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband after 60 wonderful years of marriage and leaves behind a large family who will miss her, yet are grateful for her spunk, spirit and the wisdom she imparted. She is survived by her seven children, all of whom reside in Louisville: Lynn Timbrook (Bobby), E.A. "Andy" Steinbock III (Suzanne), Allen F. Steinbock (Sherry), R. Ted Steinbock, David J. Steinbock (Barbara), Greg S. Steinbock (Beth), Anne L. Smith (Jeffrey C. Smith). She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, 2119 Payne Street. Visitation will be at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, 2-8 p.m. Thursday.
The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky at P.O. Box 397, Indianapolis, IN, 46206, or to the donor's favorite charity.
