KAREM, MARY EVELYN MARTIN, 89, of Louisville, died at home February 21, 2014 of cancer.

Evelyn was born April 16, 1924, in Louisville and graduated from Louisville Girls High School in 1942. She married Abell Karem, also from Louisville on January 2, 1944. After Abell's service in World War II, they lived in the Hikes Point area, and later owned and operated the One Hour Martinizing dry cleaners in Buechel until their retirement in 1978. Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and homemaker, and after retirement she and Abell traveled extensively and remained inseparable until his passing in 2009.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Jesse M. and Della Wood Martin, a brother, J.W. Martin, and her husband Abell Karem.
She is survived by her two children, Judy Ann Karem and Jerry Karem and his wife Sharon, two grandchildren, Jennifer Karem (Peyton Hoge V) and Nicholas Abell Karem, and great-grandson, Charles Hart Karem, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers Gayle Seabrooks, Audrey Martin, Glendora Findey, and Debra Martin for their excellent and compassionate care.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home at 3800 Bardstown Road. A private burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
