Raymond Voll Obituary

VOLL, RAYMOND A., 87, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009.

Born September 22, 1922, he was one of seven sons and two daughters of Emma and Fred Voll Sr.

He is survived by his children, David Voll, Ronald Voll, and Lisa Wilks, along with their respective spouses, Dianna, Debbie and Phil; and his eight grandchildren, David Jr., Staci, Renee, Adam, Lindsay, Scott, Amy, Trent; and his great-grandson, Blake. Other survivors include sister, Mildred Voll Schmidt; and brothers, Clifford, Eugene, Donald and Jerry Voll.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen Hettinger Voll; brothers, Fred Jr. and Alvin Voll; sister, Shirley Voll Eldridge; as well as nephews, George William Voll and Eugene "Bubby" Voll.

Ray, along with his wife, Helen, owned and operated Voll's Frankfort Avenue Hardware in Crescent Hill for over 30 years. They were very active in both the Cresent Hill and St. Matthews Communities.

Ray was described by many as a man with a smile and a cheerful spirit. Truly, a gentleman of the old school, he took service to others seriously. Ray was a World War II veteran, a member for over 35 years and past president of the St. Matthews Kiwanis Club, a founding member and vice-president of the Crescent Hill Community Council, the Mayor of Richlawn Subdivision for 17 years, President of the St. Matthews Community Board for over 36 years during which time he guided the Center to grow from 10 acres of ball field to 46 acres of picturesque recreation park where families gather to spend quality time together, a Mason, a Kentucky Colonel, both a Deacon and Elder at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church where he and his family were active members.

Over the years, Ray was honored with numerous awards including The Spirit of Crescent Hill Award, The Voice-Tribune and First Capital Bank Deep Roots Award, and at the St. Matthews Community Center a softball field is named in his honor.

His Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane, with burial following in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.
