ACKERMANN, RICHARD "DICK," 78, of Louisville, died peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Tuesday, February 26, 2013.

He retired from Con Agra after 45 years. He was a long time member of American Turners and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

It is not very often we consider those among us to be defined as an experience, but this man was nothing short of it. He was a man of great wisdom, true character, and had a wonderful sense of humor. With him, everyone always left happier than they came. His abundance of love and gratitude easily spilled over into his family and friends.

He was a devoted father, a strong leader, a gentle soul and his quick wit would fill anyone with laughter. He is proof that through love anything is possible. He truly lived a good life, one which he smiled often, laughed a lot and realized how blessed he was for what he had.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Lee Ackermann; five children, Becki Parsons (Boyd), Todd (Vicki), Rick (Shelia), Gerard (Amy), and Bernice Campbell (Neil); 13 grandchildren; brothers, his twin, Robert Ackermann (Margaret), Joseph Ackermann (Connie) and Paul Ackermann (Carolyn); and sister, Joan Ackermann. His light doesn't burn out but spills into each of the lives he has touched with his soul.

His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Rd., with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
