SHELBYVILLE - Logan, Robert "Bob" Dean, 81, of Shelbyville and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully at Baptist East Hospital on Sunday, September 30, 2012, surrounded by family.

He was the youngest son of the late Lindsey and Deanie Logan. Bob graduated in 1948 from Shelbyville High School, where he excelled at many sports, including football. He played basketball and golf for University of the South, Sewanee, before transferring to the University of Kentucky and signing up for the Air Force Reserves. Bob served two years in Europe during the Korean War. Upon his return to UK, he served as captain of the golf team and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
After graduation, Bob returned to Shelbyville and began working for the family business, Logan's Laundry. He and his brothers eventually took over the business from their father. Bob spent his career building the company into a successful uniform and healthcare linen service, Logan's Uniform Rental and Logan's Healthcare Linen Supply, before retiring and turning it over to the next generation of Logans in 1990. He was also very active in the Shelbyville business community and served for many years as a director and Chairman of the Board of Shelby County Trust Bank, now Commonwealth Bank.
An avid UK fan and sportsman, Bob enjoyed dove hunting with his nephews and friends but his true passion was golf. He scored 9 hole-in-ones during his long career. As an active member of the Shelbyville Country Club, he served as president and twice won the club championship. Bob was a founding member of Valhalla Golf Club and enjoyed his memberships at Harmony Landing Country Club and the Country Club of Naples. He also was a regular duplicate bridge player and achieved the rank of Bronze Life Master.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Jean Atherton; two children, Dean Logan (Jacqui), of Raleigh, NC and Jill Logan Jelsma (Franklin), of Louisville; brothers, Bill Logan of Shelbyville and Howard Logan Sr. (Herma) of Naples; five grandchildren, Harry, Sophie and Jack Logan and Henry and Logan Jelsma; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at Shannon Funeral Home, 1124 Main Street, Shelbyville, 40065 on Friday at 1p.m. with burial to follow at Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at Shannon Funeral Home.
