HOUK, SHIRLEY A. SCULLY, 80, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2012, with her loving family at her side. She was born on June 4, 1932 in Louisville to the late Thomas L. Scully and Catherine Campbell Scully.

She was a graduate of Christ the King grade school and Loretto High School.

Shirley was married to Robert L. Houk and has four sons and four daughters. They were the loves of her life.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a former member of St. Edward's for 40 years, where her children all attended.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Kate Scully Vormbrock; brothers, Bernard J. Scully, Thomas L. Scully and her brother-in-law, Dr. John M. Karibo.

She is survived by her four loving sons, Gary Joseph Houk, Robert Logan Houk Jr.(Patti), Thomas Lee Houk, Jeffrey David Houk (Kris) and four loving daughters, Donna Houk Howell (Larry), Diane Houk Lloyd (Edward), Beth Houk Howell (Donald), Juliann Houk (Beth Bizzell); her siblings, Mary Ellen Bidwell (Ernest) and Norma Jean Karibo, sister-in-law, Peggy Scully and brother-in-law, Bill Vormbrock.. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren; Tiffany, Lauren, April, Chad, Holly, Ashley, Jesse, Abbi, Nick, Brigid, Noah, Logan, Ethan, Adam and six great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Robert Shaw and Dr. Henry Sadlo for their compassionate care.

Special thanks to her devoted sisters, Ellen Bidwell and Norma Karibo, for their love and support.

Her funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Dr.; burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman's Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road.

Her children will remember her deep faith and devotion to the rosary, and will miss her love and laughter, but her spirit will remain with us forever.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Xavier High School Tuition Assistance Fund in her name.
