ALLEN, STUART W. JR., 89, passed away March 3, 2013 at Springhurst Pines.
He was born on August 21, 1923, in Louisville, KY, to parents Mildred (Mathey) and Stuart Wilson Allen.
Stuart graduated from Male High School with varsity letters in four different sports and attended Oklahoma State University on a basketball scholarship.
After two years, his schooling was interrupted when he served in the Navy Southern Pacific Command. He attended Columbia University Mid-Shipment School and completed his education after World War II at Texas Christian University.
His company, Stuart Allen Promotions, provided identification signs of metal, plastic or neon to many companies, in multiple states for over four decades.
Stuart enjoyed all sports, especially basketball. He was an avid tennis player, playing into his mid 80's. He was a lifelong member and elder of Second Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Parr's at Springhurst, Springhurst Health and Rehab, Baptist Hospital East and Hosparus of Louisville.
He leaves behind his loving wife of almost 60 years, Carolyn (Graves); sister-in-law, Nancy Graves; children, David (Patti), and Stuart III (Patti); grandchildren, Whitney Janney (Nick), Audrey Caywood (Sam), Meredith and Stuart IV; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Landon, Olivia, Meghan and Owen; and a great-granddaughter due in June.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Private burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Pearson's entrusted with arrangements.
Those wishing to give memorial donations are asked to consider: Cabbage Patch Settlement House, Hosparus or Second Presbyterian Church.
