He was a native of Louisville, the son of Charles W. Willock and Elsie H. Willock. William enlisted in the Army after the United States entered World War II. During the war William rose to the rank of sergeant, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
William was a graduate of Vanderbilt University, having achieved a B.A.
William was a vice president of First National Bank until his retirement in 1982.
He was a founding member of the Metro Kiwanis Club, and was an avid skier, fencer and cook. After his retirement Pa, as he was affectionately known by his family, devoted himself to his family, especially his grandchildren. He also was an active supporter of the Louisville Ballet and the Louisville Orchestra.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet S. Willock; his children, Linda W. Damrau and William C. Willock Jr.; his grandchildren, Lauren W. Willock, Victoria S. Willock, Anastasia R. Damrau, William T. W. Damrau and Wm. Brett Burkhead; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis C. Burkhead and Wm. Austin Burkhead.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 at Ratterman's Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road. Funeral service will be at Holy Spirit Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, with interment at Calvary Cemetery.
