DEHART, WILLIAM McDOWELL "MAC," 73, passed away December 7, 2013 with his family by his side after a courageous battle against multiple myeloma.

Mac was a graduate of Trinity and the University of Louisville where he was a member of Delta Upsilon and ROTC. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Mac returned to Louisville and joined the family business, DeHart Paint Co.

Mac was a pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings. He was appointed to the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and served as vice president during the first major renovation of Louisville International Airport/Standiford Field.

Mac was also appointed to the Kentucky State Racing Commission and served as vice chairman. He and his brother John owned Mint Spring Farm where they bred and raced thoroughbred horses with a graded stakes winner in their first crop.

Mac loved nature and the outdoors, horseback riding, walking the beach, photography and flying. His favorite times were with his family - especially his grandchildren.

Mac is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Barbara (Smith) DeHart; daughters Tracy Ogburn (Mike), Beth Breisch (Chris), Rebecca Adams (Tim), son William McDowell "Mac" DeHart, Jr. (Amanda); 10 grandchildren; sister Carroll DeHart, brother John DeHart (Jeanetta), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Dennis DeHart and his parents.

The family would like to thank Dr. Malik for his kind, compassionate care as well as staff at Norton Cancer Institute and the VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to in Mac's memory.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 12, 11:30 to 1, at St Frances of Rome Catholic Church with mass following. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery.
