JEFFERSONVILLE BALLENGER, LOUIS E. "ED," 73, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008. A graduate of Louisville Male High School, the University of Louisville School of Music and Indiana University, he taught in the Southwestern and Greater Clark School systems and volunteered in school and community athletics. An accomplished and lifelong brass player, he played with the Jeffersonville River Cities Concert Band, the Danville Advocate Band, the Commonwealth Brass Band in Louisville, the Indiana University Southeast Student/Community Band; performed with several national bands; was a member of the Indiana Railway Museum and the John Phillip Sousa American Legion Post in Brooklyn, NY; and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Born and reared a Quaker, he attended Cook Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Annie Lou; three sons, Eric and wife Leslie of Jeffersonville, Steven and wife Rachel of Ankeny IA, and Daniel of Trebur, Germany; sister, Ruth B. Bottigheimer of Stony Brook NY; and nine grandchildren, Erin and husband Mike Watts of Indianapolis, Erica and Ellen Ballenger of Jeffersonville, Megan and Alyssa Ballenger of Ankeny IA, and Jenny, Alex, Mike, and Denise Ballenger of Trebur, Germany. A memorial service will be held at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation is at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel will be Tuesday, from 2-6 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the or Cook Memorial United Methodist Church.
