AXMAN, JOHN J. "JOHNNIE," 81, of Louisville, passed from this life on Monday June 25, 2012 at home with his family by his side.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired carpenter with Philip Morris after 28 years, and a member of SS. Simon & Jude Catholic Church. He was a volunteer for meals on wheels, spent countless hours working in his garden, workshop and walking at the walking track. He also enjoyed his yearly fishing trips to Reelfoot Lake with family and friends, along with his family vacations to Myrtle Beach, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and August Axman; brothers, Martin and Charles; and a sister, Nadine.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Jean Stevenson; children, Laura Lorenz (Kurt), Doug (Sandra), Dave (Carol); and grandchildren, Steven, Danny, Leanne, and Kerrie Lorenz, Tyler and Casey Axman, and Owen Axman; sister, Mary Scanlon; and a brother, Urban Axman. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS. Simon & Jude Catholic Church, 4335 Hazelwood Avenue, with interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 12-8 p.m. Friday at the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. We would like to thank our daughters-in-law, Carol and Sandra for the loving care they gave him during his illness. Memorial gifts may be made to Hand in Hand or Mass of the Air.
