STERNBERG, CAROLYN LEE (MILLER), 84, of Louisville, entered into eternal life peacefully on July 14, 2013 at her home, surrounded by family.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was our beloved mother, grandmother (Granny), great- grandmother, sister and friend. Her wisdom, sense of humor, and great capacity to love will be missed by all who knew her.
Carolyn was born in Louisville (Portland) on February 9, 1929 to the late Charles William and Ellen Francis (Rush) Miller. She graduated from Shawnee (Girls) High School in the Class of 1946-1/2 and the University of Louisville in 1951. Carolyn married Clarence John "Jack" Sternberg Jr. on May 31, 1952 at St. Cecilia Church, in Louisville, and from 1953-1965, they had 10 children. Through all of the moves, business ventures and her work as a school teacher, she was a faithful wife, a loving mother, and a true friend to many.
Carolyn was an active member of St. Bernard's Parish for almost 50 years, from her time with the PTA, through her senior years in the Stephen Ministry, Secret Sisters and 55 Alive. She enjoyed water aerobics at the Southeast YMCA, where she also served on the Board of Directors. We mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Ellen Marie Lynn, brothers, Charles William 'Bud' Miller Jr. and George Earl Miller, and a grandson, Joshua David Costello.
She is survived by her brother, Phillip Henry (Pat) Miller. Honoring her memory are her children, Kathryn Ann Trabue (Dennis), Mary Geraldine Crandall (Russ), Carol Lee Wiese (Bill), Sheryl Lee McEnaney (Steve), Rebecca Lynn Sternberg, Barbara Ellen Lawler (Dave), Stephen Michael Sternberg (Joan), Susan Christine Nakasone (Paul), John Charles Sternberg (Danielle) and Christopher Joseph Sternberg (Lynne); 27 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Carolyn was a second mom to many of our friends, including Felicia Jo Walkup Warner (Richard) and Diane Loy.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 7500 Tangelo Dr., on Wednesday at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery on Preston Highway. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
