CARPENTER, DIANE RINEHART, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, born on January 24, 1933 in Buffalo, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Episcopal Church Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilmer R. and Mary B. Rinehart.
Diane grew up in Louisville. She was graduated from Kentucky Home School (now called Kentucky Country Day) and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. In June of 1953, she married Jack Carpenter, who had captured her heart at age 15. She taught kindergarten during the time Jack was stationed at Fort Knox. While raising four daughters, she enjoyed decorating homes built by the John R. Carpenter Company. Diane was a member of Beargrass Christian Church, Hurstbourne Country Club and the Spring Garden Homemaker's Club. She will be remembered for seeing life in no uncertain terms, for being grateful for the life she lived, for her deep love of her husband and daughters, for her generous heart and her creative spirit.
In addition to her husband of almost 61 years, Jack Carpenter, she is survived by her four daughters, Kathy Brooks (George), Debbie Galloway (Ed), Sherry Leavell (Bill) and Julie Ensor (Clyde); and her 11 grandchildren, Callie Picardo (Rosario), John Brooks, Maggie Galloway, Jack Galloway, Mary Galloway, Laura Leavell, Amy Cooper (Phillip), Belle Ensor, Sarabeth Ensor, Molly Ensor and Katie Ensor. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Jim Carpenter (Gloria) and three special cousins, Merty Brown (Rusty), Charlotte Cunagin (Jimmy) and Glenda Bumpus (Tom).
Visitation will be at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Beargrass Christian Church, 4100 Shelbyville Road, on Thursday at 11 a.m. Any contributions in honor of Diane are suggested to the Friendship Sunday School Class of Beargrass Christian Church or to the
