MERTZ, EDWARD W. (BUD) JR., 89, went to join his heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Louisville, KY. He went peacefully, surrounded by loving family who will miss him dearly.

He attended St. Meinrad Seminary from 1946 to 1950. He retired from the former L & N Railroad in 1980 after 30 years of service, was a member of the Benedictine Oblates at St. Meinrad Archabbey and was an avid bingo and casino player.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward W. Mertz, Sr.; mother, Lorraine F. Mertz .

He leaves to cherish his memory a niece, Mary Kaye Hardesty (Elvis); nephews Stephen E. Elder (Kathy) and David B. Elder (Sandy); a great-nephew, Adam Elder (Heather) and great-nieces, Bridget Rapson (Eric), Amy Tankersley (Jeremy) and Sarah Cummins (Rob). He also has four great-great-nephews and three great-great-nieces.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday March 1, 2014 at St. Brigid Church, 1520 Hepburn Avenue, with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Ave.

Edward and his family wish to thank the staffs of Oak Lawn Health and Rehabilitation Center and Hosparus for the great and loving care he received while there.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hosparus in Edward's name.
