WALTER, JOSEPH MICHAEL "MAC," 87, of Louisville, passed away on March 1, 2014 at Baptist Hospital East surrounded by his family.

Mac retired from Byerly Ford after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, St. John's Sick and Benevolent Society, a former member of St. Stephen Martyr Church and M.O.S.S. Club. He was also an Army Veteran of World War II. Mac was a kind, hardworking and loving man who always put his family first.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Henry C. Walter; his sister, Ruth Gruelich; and brothers, Henry, Jim and Ed Walter.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Agnes Marie Thomas; daughters, Jean Humphrey (Louie) and Mary Jo Ardis (Phil) of Pinewood, South Carolina; son, Michael Walter (Susan); grandchildren, Steve and Tony Humphrey, Robert and John Shaughnessy, Mary Ellen Keller and Brian and Rebecca Walter; great-grandchildren, Walker Keller and Reese Humphrey; and two sisters, Dorothy Wolfe (Jim) and Rosemary Hoefflin (Don).

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 8907 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY, with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Avenue, Louisville, KY from 2-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Baptist Health Foundation, palliative care unit, in memory of Joseph M. Walter.
