Lillian Duke (Nana) Iler Obituary
ILER, LILLIAN (NANA) DUKE, 91, passed away peacefully at The Altenheim on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

Born in Louisville on June 27, 1922. Lillian was a lifetime resident of Louisville before she and her husband, Norman Iler, moved to Venice, Florida in 1995. Norm passed away in May 2008 and Lillian returned to Louisville to be with her family.

Lillian attended both Parkland Junior High and Shawnee High School with her life long friend Dottie Reese. After high school, Lillian attended a local business college and then accepted a job at Merchants Wholesale Grocery Company (Creasey Company) where she met Norm. Lillian and Norm married in 1941. Their 67 years of marriage was an unconditional bond of love between two admired and cherished people.

Lillian was a lifetime member of Deer Park Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Throughout her life she volunteered her time and talents for many local organizations and charities. Lillian was a very kind, caring, beautiful person and a devoted "Nana" to her granddaughters. Throughout her long bout with dementia she maintained a wonderful disposition and greeted all visitors with her infectious smile.

Lillian and Norm spent many Sunday afternoons playing golf together with close friends at Audubon Country Club. She was a tough competitor on the golf course. She won the Audubon Women's Club Championship five times and was a long time member of the Louisville Women's District Golf Association.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Norman P. Iler, Sr., parents Jesse W. and Violet Duke; and her four brothers, Clarence Duke, Crawford Duke, Ed Duke and J.W. Duke; and her sister, Helen Ellis Johnson.

She is survived by her sons, Norm Iler, Jr., Doug Iler (Jackie), and Gary Iler; two granddaughters, Kimberly Dunn (José) and Kristina Raque (Tim); soon to be born great-granddaughter, Lillian June Raque; soon to be born great-grandchild, Baby Dunn; sister-in-law, Betty Duke; and several nieces and nephews.

Our family wishes to thank the staff at The Altenheim and Hosparus for the kind care and comfort they provided our mother during her long good-bye.

Her funeral service will be at noon, Monday at Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40205. Visitation will be at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Private burial prior to the funeral service will take place at Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of customary expressions, donations may be made to Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40205.
