CHARLESTOWN - Vaughn, James "Jim" Hawkins, 70, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at The Norton Pavilion Hosparus unit, after a long and courageous battle.
The Guest Book is expired.
Jim was born to Roy and Dorothy Vaughn in Terre Haute, IN. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes, IN. After graduation, Jim attended Elkhart University and graduated as a Dental Technician. He met the love of his life, Kay, and they settled in northern Indiana. Jim retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance and spent time cheering for the Indiana Hoosiers, traveling, raising livestock, woodworking, and watching NASCAR. He was a perfectionist and his woodworking and carpentry skills were unparalleled.
Those who were lucky enough to be witness to his craftsmanship often regarded it as art, and those who learned from him are better craftsman for it. Jim and Kay were married for more than 50 years and had a beautiful life together. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Brian Vaughn.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Kay; a sister JoAnne (Gus) Stephens of Vincennes, and a brother, Bob Vaughn, of Lafayette and their children. He is also survived by his son, Darin, and his wife Beth Keeney, of Jeffersonville. He loved talking to and about Darin and was so proud of the family he created. Jim called his granddaughters, Gabrielle Anne and Ainsley Grace, his best medicine and they will miss him terribly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday from 9-11 a.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy, Jeffersonville, IN. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
The Vaughn family would like to thank the Hosparus treatment team, specifically Jim's nurses, Joan and Sean, for the love and care they showed Jim and the family during his illness. The Hosparus team made a difficult time bearable and the family is forever grateful.
In memory of Jim, and in honor of the amazing Hosparus team, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
