Herbie was born on M arch 9, 1942 to the late Harvey and Amy (Meriweather) Nevins. He graduated from New Albany High School where he played baseball & basketball. His love for sports carried on to his later years where he enjoyed playing softball all over New Albany. Herbie was a proud veteran of The United States Air Force, where he worked as a Morse Code Translator for the Communication Systems Department. He later worked for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, the New Albany Parks Department, and the Louisville & Indiana Railroad where he retired as a dispatcher. Herbie was a man who loved his country, was an avid sportsman and conservationist and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by children, Marty Nevins (Bonnie), Scott Nevins and Amy Nevins; brother, Larry Nevins (Dora); sister, Deborah Morgan (Mike); grandchildren, Sean and Brandon Pattison, Tuesday and Zane Nevins; great-grandchildren, Kain and Andariel Pattison.
Visitation will be 12-6 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN. His funeral will be celebrated at 6 p.m. on Friday following visitation.
