PRINCETON - Barnes, Lyndle Sr., age 92, Princeton, KY died Saturday, April 26, 2014 after a short illness.

Mr. Barnes was a member of First Christian Church of Princeton and the Princeton Rotary Club. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946 and the Navy Reserve from 1947 to 1967. He was a retired KEA teacher and principal. He was Director of Special Services for the Kentucky Education Association, and was an educator for a total of 38 years.

He is survived by two sons: Lyndle Barnes, Jr. and wife, Charlotte, Princeton, KY and Allen Wayne Barnes and wife, Karen, Louisville, KY, one daughter, Janice Kaye Shafer and husband, Dr. Stephen Shafer, Orlando, FL, 6 grandchildren: Brian Lynn Barnes, Amy Lynn Barnes, Krista Allen Shafer Merchant, Mary Elizabeth Shafer Berlauk, Benjamin Allen Barnes, Jamie Allen Barnes, 7 great grandchildren: (step great grandson), Joshua Tyler Merchant, Alexys Allen Merchant, Jayden Dale Merchant, Gavin Allen Barnes, Lindy Ann Barnes, Lacey Julianne Barnes, Arlo Quinlan Barnes, and one brother, Louard Barnes and wife, Dixie, Princeton, KY.

Estelle Riggs Barnes married Lyndle Barnes on January 17, 1944. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Prudy Mae Jones Barnes, two brothers, Lowell Barnes and Kenneth Barnes and one sister, Rachel Barnes.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton, KY. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Morgan's with Rev. Cliff Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Witherspoon Cemetery with military honors to be held at the cemetery.
