WELLS, WAYNE HARNED, 66, died May 6, 2014, at Baptist Hospital East after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Wells was born on November 29, 1947, in Louisville, KY, to Y. Peyton Wells Jr. and Marion Shoenberger Wells.

He spent his childhood in Louisville and was a graduate of Waggener High School and Texas Christian University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

Mr. Wells returned to Louisville following his graduation from TCU and began a successful business career as a realtor, developer, president of West Oldham Utilities, and founding partner of the Louisville landmark, W. W. Cousins. He served as director of Shelby County Trust Bank and Commonwealth Bank and Trust. Mr. Wells was a longtime member of Harmony Landing Country Club and Louisville Boat Club, serving as president of the latter. He was the former Mayor of the City of Rolling Fields and served as an Advisory Board Member and Council Member of The Salvation Army. Mr. Wells was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and traveling with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Y. Peyton Wells III.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Wells; his children, Wayne Harned Wells Jr. and William Peyton Wells; sisters-in-law, Susan J. Isaacs (Sam) and Edith M. Wells; brother-in-law, Wes Jones (Lynn); nieces, Lindsey Wells Anderson (Todd), Caroline Rankin Wells, and Mary Peyton Harned Wells; nephews, Stuart W. Jones (Amy) and Barton A. Jones (Leeanna); mother-in-law, Ruby H. Jones; stepmother Lillian A. Wells; many cousins; and countless friends.

A private burial will be held at Cave Hill Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at First Christian Church, 7700 US Highway 42 (at Wolf Pen Branch Road). Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to The Salvation Army P.O. Box 1149, Louisville, KY, 40201-1149.
