KELLY, DR. RICHARD HARRIS, DDS, 76, of Louisville, passed away on May 12, 2014 at East Baptist Hospital.

He was born on October 10, 1937 in St. Louis, MO, to Carroll Harris Kelly and Allene Beardsley Kelly.

Dr, Kelly graduated with honors from the University of Louisville, and then earned his DDS from their School of dentistry in 1958. He established a successful dental practice in Louisville and for over 40 years he was well-known and beloved by his patients for his expertise, as well as for the gentle caring, kindness and compassion that were the hallmarks of his professional ethic. Recognized and admired as a leader in the community, Dr. Kelly was devoted to his patients' well-being and "doing it right".

Dr. Kelly was a man of profound faith. Following his self- diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, and throughout an extended illness, his commitment to his family was unwavering and during the past five years, he fought his disease head on, with characteristic tenacity and optimism.

Dr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Sylvia Lee Kelly; his sister, Kathleen Kelly Vogt and her husband Joseph Vogt and his family and numerous extended family members.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane with burial to follow in Cave Hill cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12 noon - 2 p.m. Thursday.
