Born March 29, 1937, in Tailferro County, GA, Wesley left rural Georgia to attend Young Harris College and Macon University. Following a call to ministry and his love for children, he came to Louisville to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. While at Southern, he enlisted in the Army in 1962, serving as a chaplain's assistant at Fort Hood, TX. During his tenure in the Army, he met and married Carol Anne Platt of Stratford, CT, in 1963. Wesley taught school for 39 years, three years in Bullitt County, then Social Studies and Language Arts in the Jefferson County Public School system for 36 years, 30 of those at Barret Middle School. Wesley found great joy in observing nature, taking photographs, writing poetry, and spontaneously dancing a jig.
Wesley was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he served as Preschool Children's Minister for seven years and then taught kindergarten Sunday School for over 20 years. Since 2009, he has been an active member of Highland Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.
