Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Schneider Obituary
SCHNEIDER, MARY ELIZABETH "LIBBY," 102, peacefully entered the presence of Our Lord on June 10, 2014.

Libby was born on October 4, 1911 in Louisville, KY. As a 1930 graduate of Presentation Academy, and a 1934 graduate of Nazareth College (Spalding University), she fulfilled the last wish of her mother, who passed when Libby was 3, that she earn a college education. She married Arthur Schneider, Sr. in 1935, and assisted him with his jewelry business until his death in 1971.

In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother, Libby was active in the community serving as a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital and Nazareth Home, fulfilling the role of treasurer in the Altar Society of her parish, St. Agnes, and holding office in St. Joseph's Sewing Society where she expertly created quilts for many years. She was also a member of both the Passionist Auxiliary and the Queen's Daughters. Libby was named an Associate with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1987. Her friends and family will remember her love of playing bridge, her Christmas Eve chili dinners, her devotion to family, and above all, her kindness which endeared her to everyone who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Libby was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Lorena Augustus; her stepmother, Mary Augustus; and her brothers, James Jr. and Stewart Augustus.

Those who will carry on her legacy include her sister, Martha Schroering; her daughter, Mary Jo Goss; her son, Arthur Schneider (Evelyn), all of Louisville; and her son, Kenneth Schneider (Patricia), of Palm Bay, FL. "Nana" was immensely proud of her family that included seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.

Libby's family wishes to express their appreciation for the attentive and expert care she received from the staff of Jefferson Place.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.
