HODGENVILLE - West, Harold L. "Mel" 80, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

A native of Lee County, VA, he was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the Hodgenville Christian Church, the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home "Redcoats" and was also known as "Mel the Clown" for his ministry, Clown for Christ.

Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Louise West; his mother, Lois Lawson West Staddard, his father, Shelby West and two brothers, Bob and Wayne West.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Kriel West; a son, Shelby West of Elizabethtown, KY; a brother, Jim (Lisa) West of Florida; three sisters, Frances (J.W.) Catron of Tennessee and Shelby (George) Dingus and Wanda (Jerry) Mathis all of Texas; a stepdaughter, Donna (Bro. Carlton) Puryear; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Adam West; two great-grandchildren, Madison Louann West and Bryson Borgett; and four stepgrandchildren, Lindsey (Timmy) Morris, Claire (David) Whitlock, Curtis (Tori) Puryear and Austin Puryear all of Hodgenville.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Carlton Puryear and Bro. George Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
