ELIZABETHTOWN - Buckles, Frances Evelyn, 91 years young, of Elizabethtown went to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Sunrise Manor Home in Hodgenville.
Evelyn was a devoted wife to her husband of 65 years, Paul who preceded her in death November 21, 2009 and to her children. Evelyn loved sharing stories of her childhood and early farm life experiences she and Paul faced with close acquaintances. Another favorite past time was crocheting kitchen towel hangers as she watched her beloved Kentucky Wildcat Basketball team. Evelyn met the challenge of a Rook card game with a twinkle in her eyes and enjoyed winning the game so much she would talk about her win for days just so she could relive it over and over. Many hours Evelyn spent baking her delicious Hummingbird Cakes so she could donate them for bake sales at the Methodist Church in Glendale.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Laura Jo Crawley; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jenkins; and a brother, William Jenkins.
Left behind to cherish memories of Evelyn are her sons, David (Pam) Buckles of Elizabethtown; Dwayne (Mary) Buckles of Lexington; four grandchildren, Will, Alex, C.J. Buckles and Alecia Oldham; two step great-grandchildren, Alizabeth and Ashtyn Oldham; and special friends, Pat Riticher and Wanda Bennett.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Bell and Rev. Claudia Nava-Galloway officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and continue after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
