Sutherland, Joseph Edward Jr.,

74, passed away on July 28, 2014. He was born on May 31, 1940, in Shelbyville, Ky., to Rubye J. and Joseph E. Sutherland Sr. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, William Henry Sutherland of Jacksonville, FL.

He is survived by his wife, Molly (Watters) Sutherland of Louisville; his daughters Jennifer Kathryn Sutherland of Lexington and Cheryl Daphne (Brian) Medley of Louisville; and his aunt, Marian Jewell. He is survived also by grandchildren Kathryn Emilie, Abigail Christine, Benjamin Kyle, Dane Ryan, Olivia Marie, and Joseph Patrick; great-grandchildren Aiden Christopher and Lilah Rose; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Joe graduated from Bagdad High School; he served in the Army; and he attended the University of Kentucky, graduating in 1963. In 1967, he became a certified public accountant and joined the firm of Andrew Johns in Shelbyville as a partner. In 1982 the firm became J. Sutherland, CPA. Joe devotedly maintained the firm until his death.

Joe's interests included flying, boating, raising Morgan horses, collecting vintage cars, and spending time with family at their other homes in Put-in-Bay, Ohio, and Destin, Fla. He was a Baptist by faith.

Mostly, though, Joe was a loving and much loved husband and father. He was the rock of our family.
