Nelson, James "Jimmy Jam",

67, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 in Leavenworth, IN, after a short and courageous fight with cancer.

Jimmy was born on July 5, 1947 in Louisville, KY, to Rosie and Jack Nelson. He went to high school at Georgetown High School and graduated in 1965. He joined the US Navy and served for 3 years before a medical discharge. He retired from the Courier-Journal after 33 years of employment in 2002. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling with his wife, Susan, and having a good time!

Jimmy is preceded in death by wife, Chi; father, Jack and mother Rosie.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Susan Gibson Nelson of Leavenworth, IN; his children, Dave and Teresa Nelson of Floyds Knobs, IN, Jeremy and Tausha Phillis of Charlotte, NC, Justin and Mariah Holland of Huntersville, NC, and Tess Phillis of Davidson, NC; brothers and sisters, John "Hog" Nelson and Jay Nelson, Jeff Grube and Jana Sue Lee, all of Georgetown, IN, Larry Joe Nelson of Union, KY, Louanne Gentry of Greensville, IN; three grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, IN on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 1-6 p.m. with a memorial service at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 391 Quarter Master Ct., Jeffersonville, IN 47131.
