French, James "Randy" Jr.,

86 passed away August 18, 2014 to be with his Heavenly Father.

He was married 1948 to his wife of 66 years Marjorie Shadwell French. They were confirmed together in 1941 at St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ. Randy was very active at St. John's serving on the church board for 28 years and many years as chairman of the Deacons and Trusties as well as numerous other activities.

Randy enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served aboard the battleship USS Pennsylvania. He landed in the Marianas Islands shortly before the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Randy, retired after working 10 years at Willett Furniture and 30 years Bonnycastle Hardware Company. He also was a part time house painter of 50 years.

Mr. French was preceded in death by his mother and father Mary and J.R. Sr., sister Ruth and brother Charles and his daughter Patricia French Crawford.

He is survived by three children, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. James R. French III (Vickki) Deborah French Kennedy ( Mike) Linda French Smith (Mark) and son in law Bill Crawford (Pat's husband). Also Grand children Penny, Brad and Billy, Jill, Jeff and Jennifer, Ashley, Jamie and Justin and Benjamin, also a niece Carla French Newton and a brother-in-law William Shadwell

Randy was a longtime member of the American. Legion Post # 201, The Highland Post.

He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go to his camp on Nolin Lake. Randy loved people and would stop and talk with folks he met everywhere and make friends. He would help other folks whenever they were in need. He loved to feed Squirrels and birds in his back yard and would sit and watch them for hours. He had a green thumb and could grow nearly anything. He loved his plants of all sorts. He especially loved his family, especially his grand kids and great grand kids. He would play with them as though he were a kid himself even in his eighties. He would pass out candy to all the children who would come to Sunday services at St. John's. He loved his Cincinnati Reds and would never miss watching a game as well as his Louisville Cardinals! He set the bar very high for being an example of being a father, husband and father-in-law. He will be missed.

A Celebration of Randy's life will be 11am Saturday August 23, at St. John United Church of Christ, 637 East Market St., Louisville 40202, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park

Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm Friday August 22 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd., Louisville.
