Hannan, Mary,

90, died Sunday August 31, 2014 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Mary Lucille Watson in Defiance, OH in 1923, she enlisted in the Navy in 1944, and served at Wright Field in Dayton for two years. While on active duty she also attended Hunter College in New York. During her Navy service, she was courted by James Hannan of Lima, and they were married there in 1946.

The couple settled in Gary, IN, where Mrs. Hannan was a homemaker while Mr. Hannan started his career in the automobile business. They moved several times before they settled in Louisville in 1968, when they founded Jim Hannan Oldsmobile at 4th and Breckenridge downtown.

Mrs. Hannan was an active member of Hunting Creek and Big Spring country clubs, playing bridge and golf, and as a member of the ladies bowling leagues. She was an accomplished painter and an avid traveler.

In 1978, the Hannans bought a condo on Hutchinson Island near Fort Pierce, FL, where Mrs. Hannan wintered for many years after her husband's death in 1979.

She lived with her oldest daughter Holly Wright (George) since August 2013, and is survived by three other children, Kevin Hannan (Jeannie) of Louisville, David Hannan (Heather) of Burkesville, KY and Jamie Gerlach (Steve) of Louisville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Of Mrs. Hannan's three siblings, surviving brother Jimmy lives in Spokane.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday September 3, 2014 at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane, followed by a short reception for family and friends.

Expressions of sympathy to Hosparus of Louisville.
