Edward Stauble Obituary

STAUBLE, EDWARD J. JR., 88, passed away January 17, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East.

He was born in Louisville on July 7, 1923 to Edward J. Sr. and Lorine Stengel Stauble. After graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1941, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and defended our country in World War II on Guam, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. He served in the third division of the 9th regiment, first battalion of the Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant, he met the love of his life, and "Ed and Mary" raised their family in the Hikes Point area. He was a true outdoorsman, and routinely engaged in the fine arts of fishing, camping, and growing a world class garden. The "Tomato King" kept his friends and family well stocked with tomatoes year after year.

He attended the Bowling Green Business University and the University of Louisville. He became a C.P.A. and worked for the United States Treasury Department until his retirement in 1979. He then took up skiing and ballroom dancing, and stayed active with family and friends until his death.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Stauble; three infant children, David, Dennis, and Dean; his sister, Serena Summers; and his grandson, Cory Stauble. He is survived by his children, Dr. Elaine Stauble (Dr. Bruce Tasch), Robert Stauble (Karla), Gary Stauble (Shirley), and Carol Kamenish (Mark); his brother, Donald Stauble; and three sisters, Marcella Barney, Doris Trimble (John), and Sr. Sarah Stauble. Also cherishing his memory are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road from 12 - 8 p.m., with a funeral Mass at the Ursuline Motherhouse Chapel, 3105 Lexington Road, on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 12:30 p.m.

The Stauble Family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jeff Schoen of Lexington, KY and Dr. Bart Dawson of Commonwealth Cardiologists in Louisville, KY, for their many years of expertise and care. In addition, thanks to loving care given by Mollie Schwab, Deborah Campbell, Michelle Shead, and Kathy Clark (Caring For You).

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Ursuline Sisters Development Fund at 3104 Lexington Rd. Louisville, KY, 40206, or the charity of your choice.

Ed was a man of strong spiritual conviction who valued family, friends and fairness. I knew his kindness, gentle nature and his marvelous sense of humor, and for that I feel extremely fortunate. He could be steadfast when he felt it important and lovingly supportive of almost everyone. I genuinely loved this man and his wonderful wife! His character is evident in the lives of his children, whom I also love dearly. If a life may be partially measured by the regard of others, then a special person has departed from this world. I take this moment to give thanks for his presence in my life and to extend my condolences to the whole family. May such goodness and mercy follow us, all the days of our lives!

I am sorry for your loss. I worked at IRS with Ed for a number of years. Ed was one of the best and most qualified senior agents, and would always be willing to help the younger agents with complicated issues. He was a true gentleman, and always willing to help his family and friends in any way he was able. This is a better world because Ed was here with us. God bless and keep him.
