Matthew Gould Obituary

GOULD, MATTHEW, 42, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, September 28, 2012.

Matt was a legendary brewer of fine craft beers, most recently working at Blue Grass Brewing Company. Passionate about his craft, he traveled near and far to visit other micro breweries to gain and share knowledge. Always willing to help others start and improve their craft, always willing to lend a hand, always available with quick wit. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, camping, and searching for the perfect roller coaster.

Matt had the ability to turn strangers to friends, laugh at himself, comfort others and enjoy life. He was a great son, brother, the fun uncle and friend to everyone he met. He was often described as an amazing, caring, down to earth, funny, incredible human being and friend.

Matt was the beloved son of Carmen Gallo Gould and the late Richard S. Gould, brother to Kathy Shine (David), Christine Gould, Patti Raque (Bruce), Scott Gould (Denise), uncle to Mike and Eric Shine, Tom and Kevin Bourne, Christopher and Brooke Raque, Olivia and Jennifer Gould, and friend to many.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Anchorage, KY, with a Celebration of Life Mass and reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the American Cancer Society are welcome.

Nine years ago I had the pleasure of spending a year working beside Matt. He taught me a lot, was an amazing brewmaster and an even better friend. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.

I have enjoyed Matt's friendship and fabulous beers since the early days at the BBC in St. Mathews, then to the Cumberland where he brewed that incredible Nitro Porter and then to the BBC tap room. He always had a hello and a sweet smile. He will be truly missed. Such a nice guy, he will be remembered with much fondness.

You were one of the first people I met in Louisville, and you were kind enough to let me come in to Cumberland at 6am and help you brew. Thanks for being such a generous and kind soul to someone new in town. I'll miss all the wonderful beers you crafted. I'll never have their like again.
