WALKER, SAMUEL CRAIG JR., 88, died Monday, January 14, 2013.

He was the son of the late S. Craig Walker and Evelyn Campbell Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Alice Abbott Walker, and by his sister Janet W. Tangeman.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Juanita Baker Heard Walker, better known as Weezie; Rev. Craig Reid Walker (Marilynn), Lauren W. Tabor (Frank); sister Barbara W. Bennett (Bill); and was "Grand Sam" to five grandchildren, 13 stepgrandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Walker was a graduate of duPont Manual High School, class of 1941 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He attended Columbia University Graduate Faculties of Political Science in the School of Economics and in the Russian Institute. On the death of his father, Walker returned to Louisville to assume the management of the Walker Bag Company. He was president of the company for 40 years. Walker Bag Co. was an important supplier of burlap, and later, woven polypropylene bags. In 1991, the company completed 100 years of continuous operations, and was recognized by the governor for this accomplishment. He served as national president of the Textile Bag Manufacturers and as president of the Kentucky Feed and Grain Association for two years. He served on the Air Pollution Control Board of Jefferson County from 1975 through 1983.

He was an active Jaycee and was a vice president when the Louisville club had a membership of 700 young men. Walker was a member of the Rotary Club for many years and was also a member of Audubon Country Club for 25 years. Walker was on active duty in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, when he returned to inactive duty as a lieutenant (j.g.), USNR.

His memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road (at US Hwy 42) with private burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in the Narthex of St. Luke's Chapel of The Episcopal Church Home (please use Lyndon Lane entrance). Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson's.
