For 39 years, Attia worked as a teacher and later as school principal for I. N. Bloom Elementary School. Her educational career includes her bachelors in Economics from Vassar College, teaching credentials from Western Kentucky College, a master's degree in History and Political Science from University of Louisville, and graduate studies at Columbia and Northwestern Universities and the University of Colorado.
During World War II she was a member of WAVES, the Women's Naval Reserve and she also dedicated herself to the Kentucky Chapter of League of Women Voters, where she served as president during the 1984 Reagan-Mondale debates.
She will be laid to rest in Cave Hill Cemetery.
