SPRINGFIELD - Carey, Rudolph Noel, 98, of Grundy Avenue, Springfield, KY, passed away at 5 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 2013 in the emergency room of Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

A native of Washington County, he was born on February 10, 1915 to the late Ivan B. and Della Noel Carey.

He was the oldest member of the Willisburg Christian Church, a 1933 graduate of Willisburg High School and a 73 year member of the J. Speed Smith Masonic Lodge #298 F. & A.M. at Willisburg.

In 1937 Rudolph began working for the Sutherland Funeral Home which was owned and operated by Fred Sutherland, his soon to be father-in-law. He continued working until being called to serve his country during World War II. Following the war Rudolph attended the Kentucky School of Embalming in Louisville in 1947. After graduation he continued his career with Mr. Sutherland until December of 1960 when Mr. Sutherland suffered a stroke leaving him unable to conduct business. At which time Freddie Carey, Rudolph's son joined him in the family business and changed the name to Carey & Son Funeral Home in 1961. For the first thirty-nine years he worked not only with funeral services but also provided the community with twenty-four hour ambulance service and served as a deputy coroner for Washington County for several years. Although Rudolph experienced many changes in the funeral business during his career he enjoyed the opportunity and was committed to serve his community as a funeral director for seventy-five years. The family business which he loved continues on in it's 102nd year.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Nellie Sutherland Carey on September 10, 2002; a brother, William Carey; and two sisters, Louise Jenkins and Margie Duncan.

Survivors include his son, Freddie R. Carey; and his wife, Sue of Willisburg; his daughter, Runelle Pinkston; and her husband, DeLane of Bradfordsville; five grandchildren, Melanie, Trusty, DeNell Hamm, Dana Carey, Frederick Carey and his wife, Ashley and Chad Carey; and five great-grandchildren, Morgan Trusty, Brannon Hamm, Declan Hamm, Ian Trusty and Gibson Carey.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Bowen, minister of the Willisburg Christian Church, officiating. He will be assisted by Bro. Robert E. Jones, a former minister. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Frederick Carey, Chad Carey, Dan Hamm, Brannon Hamm, J.R. " Dick" Moraja and Joseph H. "Junie" Mattingly. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
