McCONNELL, JOSEPH W. "MAC," 86, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at home.
Mac was born in Springfield, KY and was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Margaret McConnell; his parents, Corinne McConnell-Simms and Joseph D. McConnell; brother, Tom McConnell and a sister, Mary Julia Hayden.
He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. after 34 years of service, having worked at the Kentucky Truck Plant, Louisville Auto Plant and Western Parkway. Mac was very proud of his service to his country, serving during World War II in the Marines, mainly in the Pacific. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. Survivors include his children, Lonnie McConnell (Linda), Terry McConnell (Vickie), Corrine Ruffra (Mike), Doug McConnell (Barbara) and Tony McConnell; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Simms and Margaret Cecil; and adopted family, Helen Halk (George) and children.
The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rita Church, 8719 Preston Highway. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road.
