HEITZMAN, ANTHONY CHARLES, SR., 75, of Lenoir City, met his Master Monday, June 24, 2013 and is waiting at the feet of Jesus for each of us.

A native of Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Lewis Anthon Heitzman and the late Margaret Harmon Heitzman. In 1956, he graduated from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, KY. Playing on a football scholarship and serving as co-captain of the team, Tony graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, TN in 1957. He earned a football scholarship to Tennessee Tech University (TTU) where he played on three OVC championship teams.
In 1961, after graduating with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from TTU, Tony married his college sweetheart. Peggy Winton of Viola, TN. His military career began in Frankfurt, Germany serving in the artillery of the United States Army and earning the rank of Captain. Tony and Peggy made lifelong friends during their tour of Europe and settled in West Knoxville after Tony was honorably discharged in 1965. In 1995, he retired from Martin Marietta Systems as a Fire Protection Engineer at the K25 plant. He continued working in Oak Ridge as a consultant for the next 20 years. His many interests include fishing, backpacking in the Great Smoky Mountains, oil painting, photography, gardening, golf, and watching his beloved Kentucky Wildcats basketball. He was a member of the Christian Church of Loudon County faithfully serving as an Elder, Mission Teams leader, and organized the weekly golf outings.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peggy Winton Heitzman; children, Margaret (Jody) Whieldon of Hull, GA, Anthony (Melanie) Heitzman of Knoxville, TN, Dantley (Corinne) Heitzman of Knoxville, TN, and Olivia (Andy) Ogle of Lenoir City, TN; mother-in-law, Frankie Bailey Winton of Viola, TN; sister Jacqueline (John) Ware of Fairfax, VA; half-brothers Lewis, Rusty, and Willie Heitzman; half-sisters: Sandy and LeAnn; sisters-in-law: Joann Howell of Dalton, GA; Joyce (Dewey) Alverson of Gainesville, GA; and grandchildren, Joseph and Elizabeth Whieldon; Callie, Kaycee, and Turner Heitzman; Ryan, Hayden, and Blake Heitzman; and Wyatt, Boone, and Josie Wade Ogle. Tony was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Family and friends will gather at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 East Governor John Sevier Highway at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 for Graveside Services with full military honors. Also on Friday, the family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Christian Church of Loudon County, 12210 Martel Rd, Lenoir City, TN 37772.
