VAN ZANT, RAY, 72, went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 1, 2013.

He was retired from LG&E and was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War.

The apple of Papaw's eyes were his two grandsons, Clay and Cole. He also loved following his Holy Cross Cougars (Clay) and the Louisville Titans (Cole). Papaw was a dedicated fan that never missed a chance to see his boy's play ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine Van Zant.

Ray is survived by his only child, Melissa (Scott) McMichael; grandsons, Clay and Cole McMichael; twin brother and best friend, Gay "Louie" Van Zant; devoted sister, Jacquelin (William) Clark and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Ray will be Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home SW Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). Funeral services are Friday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, 2501 North Dixie Blvd., Radcliff, KY.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Louisville, KY.
