MESSMER, CHARLES EDWARD "DUKE," 88, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Baptist Health.

Duke was retired from the old South Central Bell Telephone Company where he had 36 years of service, was a member of the American Legion, a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church and was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rose Murphy Messmer; daughters, Deborah Ann Stewart (David) and Robyn Lynn Simon (Michael); grandchildren, Heather Ann Brauner (Robert), Michelle Nicole White (Tom), Jessica Lynn Gilbert (Joe) and David Wayne Stewart; as well as his great-grandchildren, Abigail Rose Brauner, Lukas Rylee White, Robbie Wayne Brauner and Nolan Michael White.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 3042 Hikes Lane, with burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.
