SHANKLAND, VENICE IRENE, 88, of Crestwood, KY, went to her forever home with God Tuesday February 18, 2014 at Masonic Home, Shelbyville, KY.

She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, Christian Womens Society, and was made a Kentucky Colonel in November 2001. Irene retired form the State Nutrition Service after 35 years and then continued her career at Eastern High School for 21 years, Oldham County Schools for eight years, Zachary Taylor three years and St. Aloysius for seven years. She was a 22-year breast cancer survivor and the "star" of the Masonic Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Bud" Shankland.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Carraco (Dennis) and Sheree' Shannon (Tom); stepbrothers, Sherwin, Norris Warren; stepsisters, Barbara Stockdale, Phyllis Blanton and Donna Wylder; granddaughters, Jessica and Katie; grandsons, Colin and Bennett; and great-granddaughters, Phoenix and Pasiley Cochran.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
