Joseph Alvey Obituary
74, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
He was a former math and classical music teacher, and a liquor store manager. He was a former competition Olympic weight lifter and Mr. Teenage Kentucky; and a member of the Classical Guitar Society of Louisville.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ann Lark Alvey; children, Carl Alvey and Catherine Cravens (Jim); sisters, Nora Jean Thorpe and Mary Richard Tewell; grandchildren, Shawn Cravens (Allie), Brittany Boone (Justin) and Dalton Ray Alvey; ;great grandchildren, Evyanna and Adylise Cravens, and Olivia Boone; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 7 p. m. Sunday at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway followed by cremation. Visitation will be from 12 noon - 7 p. m. Sunday.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.

I met Joe in the mid 1980's while in college and working part time at Walt's Olympic Gym at the Mid City Mall. Joe and I also took a few college courses together my freshman year. He was my weight lifting coach and great friend. His stories about the "old days" were always interesting to me. R.I.P Joe, enjoy the next adventure in your new existence...jb
