William MacCool Obituary

MacCool, William David,

74, passed away at his home on August 3, 2016. He was the son of the late Henry "Mickey" and Jean MacCool. David was a 1960 graduate of St.Paul's Highschool and received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his Master's degree from Georgetown University. Before his retirement, he served as the administrator of several rural hospitals, located in New York, Iowa, and Kentucky. Dave had an unwavering commitment to his work and his employees.

Dave was an All-American Lacrosse player in college and continued with club lacrosse for years after graduation. Dave loved public service. He coached Special Olympics sports, served with single-payer health advocates, Habitat for Humanity, Lion's Club, and the Brotherhood of St. Andrews. Wherever there was a need, he was ready to fill it.

Dave's robust friendship with his fraternity brothers during his college years continued to be a positive force through his life. Dave was the best father and husband anybody could desire. His love and support was unconditional.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, a son, Christopher, a daughter, Kathleen and his brother, Rob.

Funeral service 11 am Tuesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church , 2822 Frankfort Avenue, with a reception to follow the service. Visitation 4-7 pm Monday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

Memorial donations may be made to Pitt Academy, 7515 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40222.

I only knew Dave for a few years, concerning mostly health care reform and advocacy, but we found that he was concerned about his community and that he was sensitive to what was affecting people. He shared his valuable experience as a medical administrator to enlighten us of the serious impact of which the nation's health system was hurting people. It is not often that people in his position are as interested and served like he did. He was a rare human. We will miss him and remember him.

Dave, just knew you a short time and not all that well. But what I did know was a kind man whose consideration for his fellow man far exceeded his own. God bless you and your family.

What we are feeling now is hard to put into words. Dave was such a kind soul, always looking out for others, and never complaining. He was a great husband to Nancy, a loving father to Chris and Kathleen, and a loving brother to Rob. He was exceptionally good with coaching special needs children and adults in Special Olympics Softball and Basketball for many years. We will miss him dearly. Our love and support will be always be there for you.

Dear Nancy and Family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and father Dave. Dave had a great character and great compassion and thoughtfulness of others. He was always there to volunteer at the Louisville Adaptive Rowing club. He will be greatly missed. I will be praying for you and your family.
