Cotner, Samuel Howard,
Samuel H. Cotner, 86, of Bloomington, IN, passed away on August 20, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Bloomington. He was born April 10, 1930 in Corydon, Indiana to the late Raymond Cotner and Rosella (Sonner) Cotner.
He was married to Marlene (Meidel) Cotner in 1952. Marlene and Sam raised five children: Stephen Cotner (Karen) of Fishers, IN, Patrick Cotner and John Cotner (Paula) of Bloomington, IN, Rebecca Williams (Michael) of Indianapolis, IN and Karen Cotner (deceased). Grandchildren: Jennifer (Ellis) Owens and Matthew Cotner of Fishers, IN, Bart Cotner (Ashley) of Bloomington, IN, Hannah Webster (Jason) of Farmersburg, IN, Allison Cotner, Mandi Williams and Megan Ryle (Frankie) of Indianapolis, IN and 13 great-grandchildren.
Sam graduated from New Amsterdam High School in 1947, earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Indiana University in 1956 and served in the Army 1949-1953. Sam retired as the Deputy Director of Personnel at the Naval Weapons Support Center in Crane, IN (30 years). He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, avid Indiana University basketball and Indianapolis Colts fan. Sam enjoyed and recited poetry from many authors. He played and coached men's softball for 30 years and was inducted into the Bloomington Softball Hall of Fame.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home & Crematory 4155 S. Old St Rd 37. With visitation Wednesday from 11:00 am to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be sent to Meals on Wheels 727 W. 1st St., Bloomington, IN 47401 or [email protected] You are invited to share a memory or leave an online condolence to the family at www.allencares.com
