Richard Martiny Obituary

MARTINY, RICHARD C. "Dick",

of Louisville, KY passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Dick was born on July 29, 1938 in Neenah, Wisconsin to Keith and Marion Martiny. He was the third of six children. After graduating from the Neenah school system he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Okinawa, Japan, the Philippine Islands and finished his tour in Indiana. In August of 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Thorson. They moved to Madison, WI where he attended the University of Wisconsin. Both sons, Michael and Steven, were born in Madison. After obtaining his degree in Mechanical Engineering, he became part of the Charmin Paper Company in Green Bay, WI. It soon became part of Proctor & Gamble Corp. So began the adventure of family life, career, new locations and challenges that appeared along the way. Dick enjoyed life and didn't retire until 1998. At that point we bought an Airstream Trailer and traveled the entire United States, Canada, as well as Baja Mexico. It was great fun as well as educational. He became active in the Wally Byam Caravan Club. His other love was the farm he and Judy developed outside of Andersonville, GA. Raising Black Angus cattle and clearing land bit by bit was good "work" when not traveling. He enjoyed flying his Piper Cherokee also but traded it in for a tractor once the farm was developed. Dick always gave back to his community and church. He was a long-time member of Lions International, and did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, the United Methodist Church, Methodist Children's Home, Boy Scouts of America, and Baptist Missions and a volunteer fireman when he was younger.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 58 years and two sons, Michael (Susan) of Edina, MN and Steven (Sabrena) of Louisville, KY and grandchildren Keith (Gina), Michael (Lauren), Kaitlin, Thomas and Megan (Nick). He also has one great granddaughter, Elizabeth. He is survived by two sisters, Jackie (Bill) Dickens and Sharon Stieler and one brother, Gary (Marilyn). He enjoyed so much his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandson John, brothers Don Martiny (Lori) and Kim Martiny (Lynn). Dick was an eternal optimist and had many friends scattered over the United States. He celebrated these friends as well as neighbors.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3:00 PM at Springdale Presbyterian Church, with visitation from 1:00-3:00 PM at the church. In lieu of customary expressions, memorials can be made to Montezuma United Methodist Church, South Dooley St. Montezuma, GA 31063 and Springdale Presbyterian Church, 7812 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40241 or to a charity of your choice.

Judy, I was deeply grieved to see the notice of Dick's death. I didn't realize that you had moved from Montezuma. I know you both have been greatly missed there. I remember you both with great appreciation and fondness for your faithfulness to our Lord and His church. In your grief I can only imagine how difficult it is to turn loose of your soul mate. We are blessed to hold close to Christ's promise that He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. There can be no doubt that Dick is rejoicing in the full light of Christ's glory today and forever. With much love, Nancylee Cater ([email protected])

I cannot express the feeling of loss with Dick's passing. He was such an inspiration at the work site, social gatherings, and yes, after his retirement, the exercise time he and Judy spent with us when they were not traveling. My prayers are with Judy and all of the Martiny family. Love to you all.

Miss Judy, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today. I received our local electronic "Real Facts News" this morning to learn of Dick's passing. I was totally surprised. The memories immediately began to flow; His technical and management/leadership skills were off the chart. He, you & I shared common interests in the rural farming, ranching lifestyles including the Cattle. He was always the perfect Gentleman and Champion of Christ, living true every day! He was and is today a true blessing to all who had the privilege to know him. I will personally truly miss him but will carry our many memories forever! All my love and prayers to you and your family!

Dick Martiny was the most positive, kindest man I have ever met. He truly stood head and shoulders above what most people would consider ordinary men. It was a pleasure to have met him and to have spent time on his farm in Georgia. My sincere condolences to his wife Judy and their family.
