Staff Sgt. George Scott Rentschler, 31, of Ft. Knox, KY, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Baquebah, Iraq. Staff Sgt. Rentschler joined the Army on April 20, 1993. He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, having arrived there from Ft. Knox in October of 2003. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He had also received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Rentschler. He is survived by his wife, the former Rachael Basham; his two sons, Scott Christopher and Brock Andrew Rentschler; and his mother, Lillian Rentschler. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, 3548 Taylor Blvd. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, KY.
